This is the last week for Baby Bottle Boomerang.  All bottles should “boomerang back” on Sunday, June 17.  Baby Bottle Boomerang is our current mission effort which benefits LMO –Life Matter Outreach—Pregnancy Care Center here in Cedartown.  LMO is a place where a woman experiencing an unplanned pregnancy can come for confidential care and support. LMO offers free pregnancy testing, education, and counseling about pregnancy options, and support programs.  At LMO they work to help build stable, healthy families in our community through their outreach and educational resources.

This campaign is called Baby Bottle Boomerang because we distribute empty baby bottles to church members and just like a well tossed boomerang, they come back to us full of coins, currency, and checks.  These funds will go to LMO Pregnancy Care Center to help them help change lives.  During this last week, continue to fill your bottle with spare change, and return your filled bottle as you come to church on Father’s Day.  As you enter the sanctuary on June 17, please place your Baby Bottle Bank on the altar rail before you take your seat.

Last year our contributions to LMO were almost $1600.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful if this year we could match and exceed our gift this year!!

Remember to save your change for LMO this last week.  Our loose change combined with other donors’ change can truly change lives!!

Wednesday Night Dinners

For the month of June, we will continue our Wednesday Night Dinner with family-style meals, inviting different families to provide the meal each week.  The church will provide the drinks, serviceware and condiments.  We will also be asking the church family to make weekly June Dinner RSVPs either online, by calling the church office or using the Sunday morning registration slips so that we can help the cooks each week to plan.  One or more families may desire to partner together to do this.  RSVPs are due to the church office by Tuesday at Noon.

The following Wednesday is open Supper Teams:  June 27th

If your are interested in providing a meal on the 27th (main dish, sides and desserts), please contact the church office and speak with Reba.

(During the month of June, our last dinner will be June 27th.  We will break for July and August and resume our meals on Wednesday, Sept. 12th.)

Annual Conference

One of the basic disciplines of the United Methodist Church is what John Wesley called “Holy Conferencing”, a gathering of the laity and/or clergy for worship, prayer and fellowship.  The North Georgia Annual Conference is scheduled for June 11th-14th and will be held in Athens, GA.  You have both a Clergy delegate and a laity delegate who will be present for this week of Annual Conference.  Britt Madden, Sr. serves as our Lay Delegate to Annual Conference and represents the voice of our laity for all matters of the Annual Conference.  Please keep both Pastor Mike and Britt in your prayers during this time.

Congregational Security

Over the last several months, and in light of recent incidents around the country, our church leadership and Trustees have taken additional precautionary steps to provide for a safe space for our preschool, nursery, children’s ministry and church and worshipping congregation.  Our preschool hallway is secure on weekdays and must be entered by ringing the buzzer on the Wissahickon Avenue, nearest the water department.

On Sundays, the Fellowship Hall door is secured following the start of Sunday school at 10am.  Following the start of worship, our Gathering Room door (nearest the main parking lot) is secured at 11:15 by our Ushers.  The main entrance on Wissahickon Avenue (across from First Baptist) will remain unlocked for late arrivals and to provide a secure worship experience.

While we realize this may be an inconvenience to some and are preventative at best, we feel a responsibility to take these steps and sincerely desire to be most attentive to not only the safety of but also the worship experience of our church family.  We appreciate your patience and understanding with these changes.

District Mission Trip

The district Mission Trip to Lumberton, NC is fast approaching (June 24th – 29th).  It is not too late to join the team.  This is a great opportunity for individuals or small groups that might not otherwise be able to go on a mission trip.  For more information or to sign up, contact Bill Coady;  bill.coady@ngumc.net or 770-548-6688 .

 Summer Giving

We realize the summer months are upon us and our families are on the go with vacations, trips, sports, etc.  Please remember that the needs of the church continue during this season as well and your financial support allows us to continue the ministry work with which we have been tasked.  If you are unable to be with us each Sunday, please make arrangements with our church office so that we can continue to count on your financial support.  If you would like to set-up automated giving, please contact Reba Roberts, Financial Secretary at 770.748.4731 extension 2 and she can help you take those important steps.  We hope to make Giving Statements available first week of July related to all giving January – June 2018.

Confirmation at Cedartown First

We are making plans to offer a Confirmation class for youth, 6th grade and older, beginning with the new school year.  This 6-8 week course will touch on the basic beliefs of our faith and denomination and seek to answer questions your child may have.  If you have an upcoming 6th grade or older youth, please contact the church office so that we can be sure we include everyone.

College Students

Parents – if you have a child currently in college or soon to be going in that direction, please send his/her name to the church office along with the name of the school and a current mailing address.  We are beginning a new outreach to our students while they are away at school.

Bagwell Food Pantry and the Cedartown Boys and Girls Club

We have a ministry partnership with The Boys and Girls Club of Cedartown and the Bagwell Food Pantry located in Rome.  Each week, a different team of volunteers serves as transportation to pick up boxed meal sacks from the pantry and deliver them to the children for the weekend.  Dean Nissen has graciously agreed to coordinate this ministry outreach.  If you would like to find out more, please contact Dean at 770.881.0226 or email deanoniss@aol.com.

(If you or your group would like to serve at the Bagwell Food Pantry, contact Dawn Hayes at dhayes@actionministries.net.)

We express our Christian love and sympathy to Sharon & Jim Fuhlman on the death of his sister, Joyce Gordy.  May God’s comfort, strength, and courage be greatly experienced by this family.
