Coming Up …
Plans are underway for the start of our Lenten season with Ash Wednesday and 40 days of Lent. Easter Sunday will be sure to be a great celebration with our annual Sunrise Service in the park and our 11am Easter Service. We are looking at offering a weekly Wednesday lunch and devotion by area churches and pastors. Pastor Mike will be leading a new prayer ministry and our congregation will be challenged to embark on a Bible reading campaign to have everyone read through the Bible in a year. You will start hearing more about our ministry to children and youth through our Confirmation Program, being offered to youth ages 6th grade and higher who have not yet been formally Confirmed into the church. We will be welcoming several individuals to the pulpit including our Worship Assistant Bill Ellis, our Lay Leader Rick Hall, and guest preachers including our very own District Superintendent, Dr. Rev. David Naglee on January 28th. As you can see, we will have a busy, yet exciting Easter season before us. Make plans now to be a part of this wonderful celebration.
Weekly Ecumenical Prayer Focus
This week … Pastor Tony Davis and Glad Tidings Fellowship
We serve a wide and diverse community with multiple faith traditions but all moving in the same direction which is to bring the Kingdom of God into the hearts and homes of our community. Each week, you will be invited to remember a church and pastor in your daily devotion time. This week, beginning January 8th, we will be praying for Pastor Tony Davis and the wonderful folks at Glad Tidings Fellowship. Please set aside just a few moments each day and lift up our Brothers and Sisters in Christ. Next week is Dr. David Taylor and First Baptist Church of Cedartown. A church that prays is a church that grows. Come pray and grow with us.
Wednesday Night Fellowship Supper
All members are encouraged to start the New Year by putting Fellowship Supper every Wednesday night at 6pm on your calendars. Prices are $7 for Adults & $5 for Kids. Our hostess, Elaine Boring, and caterer, Vicki Bradshaw, provide us with a delicious, affordable supper each week. This week, several of our men will be treating members to a special fellowship supper “Breakfast” at 6pm. Let’s show our support by attending.
An Information Session about the Literacy Program
will be held on Wednesday, January 10th, at 5pm, in the Fellowship Hall.
CASA will be holding a Volunteer Information Session on Monday, January 22nd, at 6pm, at First United Methodist Church in Cedartown! Our last information session blessed us with a huge group of new, wonderful volunteers – we’re hoping the same for this one! Our volunteer training class is scheduled for Monday & Wednesday mornings from 9am – 12pm and will begin on Wednesday, January 24th.
If you’ve ever wanted to learn a little more about what a CASA does, please mark your calendars to attend the information session. Our staff and a few volunteers will be there to tell you more and answer any questions you may have. It is commitment free, casual, and dinner will be provided! We also encourage you all to spread the word – tell and invite anyone who you think would make a great CASA volunteer!
Who Am I … A Spotlight On Our Staff
Each of the next few weeks, we will spotlight a different staff member and let you know a little something about him or her. We have a gifted and talented team that is passionate about what they do and desire to serve our congregation and community through the church. Please take a moment and say “thank you” to our staff and pray for our staff each week. This week, we would like to introduce you to Cam Lorys who serves in our nursery.
My name is Cam Lorys, and I am fairly new to Cedartown. I moved here in June of 2016 to help out with older relatives; my family has lived in Cedartown for generations. My passion lies with children, helping to nurture and play with them, but outside of church or childcare I love working with people, and I am heavily involved in my school’s theatre program, yearbook staff, and debate team. This year, I am excited to work and grow with the church and nursery, and to start my senior year of high school and the search for college!
Monday, January 15th, 6:30pm, Jefferson’s – Cedartown
